Let’s hear Tracy’s story….

Conflicts with my parents

I am narrating my unique experience in undergoing teen life. As a teen, I was looking for freedom, but that always seemed to oppose the visions of my parents. This often led to heated arguments and stubborn behavior. My point of view was always different, and my parents didn’t seem to understand my side of the argument. A minor clash always blasted into an aggressive argument or fight.

Interpretation

When I was struggling to walk through this phase, a well-wisher of our family gave an unexpected advice to me and my parents on how to handle the conflicts in the best way.

He told us that belief is the base of all relationships. Snooping, cross questioning, and doubting would break the beautiful yet fragile bond, which would lead to lying, stealing, and being ill-mannered. He also added that as an individual I should understand the views of my parents and vice versa. Trying to be more flexible when concerning minor issues would allow us to build stronger bonds.

The capability to develop positive self-esteem was affected by my family’s criticism. Trusting and accepting myself would surely help in developing a fruitful bond between me and my parents.

After that I came to understand that harsh words would never work as a solution and that thinking twice before speaking was required. Now, it feels great to handle everything in a cool and composed manner. When it comes to dealing with conflicts, the best way is to listen, understand, accept and compromise.

Now I am in a very happy and harmonious relationship with my family, and my studies too are going on in a great manner.
