Addicted to video games? Unable to focus on GSCE prep?
Well don’t worry. You’re not alone…

Nikki struggled to prepare for her GCSE’s because of gaming addiction. But how did she overcome it?
studentBOX is a community project run by GCSE & A level volunteers with an objective to overcome the stress related with exams by sharing their own stories and being a role model.
They share their stories of how they overcame gaming addiction to reach Grade 9.
Fasten your seat belts and prepare for the ride.
Let’s hear Nikki’s story….
Gaming addiction prevented me from studying. My friends would always call me to play video games with them.
In year 9 and 10, my friends didn’t care much about their grades and test scores so this influenced me to not prioritise my studies.
For me, the distractions of friendship problems was the biggest issue in year 10 , as it caused me to not prioritise my studies.
Solution:
I did find that encouraging my friends to study with me and then play games after we finished was a good way of getting my revision work done. We would do zoom calls together and go through topics for about an hour or more.
Since I personally have a very short attention span (I get distracted and tired of studying very easily) I decided that for every 45 mins that I study, I would play one round of a game with my friend. This worked for me because I got to relax and have fun but also get my work done!
Don’t have any games on your ipad/laptop/computer as you want to use that for studying purposes only. Cutting out distractions is the best way to move forward with your revision and focus.
