  1. To show the forces acting on a book on a table:
    I drew two arrows of equal length, one pointing up and one pointing down.
    The downward arrow is labelled weight (or gravity).
    The upward arrow is labelled reaction force (or contact force).
    Both arrows come from the book to show they are acting on it.
