  1. I would have two groups, smokers and non-smokers, with at least five people in each group. Everyone would do the same type of exercise for the same amount of time. I’d make sure the groups are similar in age, gender, health, and fitness level. I’d record each person’s heart rate before and after the exercise, then work out how much it increased. Finally, I’d compare the results for the two groups.
