  1. Advantages of the plastic IUD:

    Lasts longer than the copper IUD, so it doesn’t need replacing as often.

    Although periods can be more painful, the copper IUD usually causes worse pain.

    Can reduce bleeding during periods.

    Most side effects are mild, like feeling sick, acne, or headaches.

    Disadvantages of the plastic IUD:

    Has to be in place for some time before it works, so it can’t be used as emergency contraception.

    Can make period pain worse.

    May cause more side effects than the copper IUD.

    Can sometimes cause more serious effects, like ovarian cysts (though these are only possible, not guaranteed).
