  1. Add sulfuric acid to a beaker.

    Warm the acid gently (but don’t boil it).

    Add a small amount of magnesium oxide to the acid.

    Stir the mixture.

    Keep adding magnesium oxide until no more dissolves (it’s in excess).

    Filter the mixture using filter paper and a funnel to remove the extra magnesium oxide.
