  1. A thermometer is placed inside each can to measure temperature.

A stopwatch or timer is used to measure heating time.

A measuring cylinder or beaker is used to make sure the same amount of water is put in each can.

A lamp is set up at the same distance from each can.

The starting temperature is measured before heating.

Each can is heated for the same amount of time.

The highest temperature reached is recorded, or temperatures are recorded over time.

The can that heats up the most is the best absorber of heat.
