Figure 3 shows a patient who has been injected with a radioactive source for medical diagnosis.

The radioactive source should have a short half-life, so it does not stay in the body for long. This means it causes less damage to the cells, tissues, and organs.
It should also have a low ionising power, which again means less damage to the body.
The source must be highly penetrating so that the radiation can be detected outside the body.
It should emit gamma radiation, as gamma rays can pass through the body and be detected by machines.
