In this question you will be assessed on using good English, organising information clearly and using specialist terms where appropriate. Light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature are three factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis. How would you investigate the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis? The image below shows some of the apparatus you might use You should include details of: • how you would set up the apparatus and the materials you would use • the measurements you would make • how you could make this a fair test. – 7037

  1. put pondweed in a beaker of water and shine a lamp on it. I change the light intensity by moving the lamp closer or further away. I keep the same piece of pondweed, keep the temperature the same with a water bath, and keep CO₂ levels the same. I wait a bit after changing the lamp distance before measuring. I measure the rate by counting bubbles in 1 minute or by collecting the gas in a syringe. I repeat each distance and take an average.
