  1. After a meal, blood glucose goes up, which makes insulin get released. Insulin makes glucose move into cells, especially in the liver and muscles, where it’s changed into glycogen. This lowers blood glucose. When blood glucose gets too low, glucagon is released, which makes glycogen turn back into glucose.
