  1. A person cannot see distant objects clearly if they are short-sighted, which is also called myopia. In this condition, light entering the eye is not focused on the retina, but instead, it is focused in front of the retina. This happens because the shape of the eye is not ideal for focusing distant objects.

    One reason for this is that the eyeball might be too long, which means the distance from the lens to the retina is increased. Another reason is that the cornea might be too curved or too convex, causing the light to bend (refract) too much when it enters the eye. Also, the lens might not be able to become thin enough to reduce the refraction, so overall, the light rays converge too soon and do not reach the retina properly. This results in a blurry image for objects that are far away.

    The problem of short-sightedness can be corrected in several ways. The person should first go to an optician to have an eye test. If they are diagnosed with myopia, they can be given glasses or contact lenses. These lenses need to be concave (diverging lenses), which spread the light rays out slightly before they enter the eye. This helps move the focus point backward so that the light focuses correctly on the retina.

    Another solution is laser eye surgery, which reshapes the cornea to make it less curved. This reduces how much the light is bent as it enters the eye, so again, the light can be focused on the retina instead of in front of it.

    By using concave lenses or reshaping the cornea, the light is refracted less and focused properly on the retina, allowing the person to see distant objects clearly again.
