  1. When the ciliary muscles contract, the ring they form gets smaller in diameter.
    This makes the suspensory ligaments loosen and go slack.
    Because of this, the lens becomes thicker and more curved (fatter in shape).
    A thicker lens bends the light rays more (more convergence).
    This means the light can be focused exactly on the retina.
    As a result, the image is clear and in focus.
