This tells us that Tool C is the oldest, then Tool B, and Tool A is the most recent. The rocks can also be dated using methods like radiometric dating, or by comparing the tools to fossils from the same time period.

   Next, the quality of the tools gives clues about how humans improved over time. Tool A is the most advanced—it is more finely made, symmetrical, and specialised for certain jobs. Tool B shows some signs of being shaped, but it’s not as smooth or detailed as Tool A. Tool C is the most basic, with a simple shape and very little evidence of being worked on.

   Finally, the tools show how human skill and intelligence increased over time. The later tools show greater ability to shape and use materials, meaning that the humans who made them had better problem-solving skills and possibly a higher level of intelligence. This is shown by how Tool A is much more advanced than Tool C.
