  1. When calcium carbonate reacts with an acid, fizz/bubbles/effervescence are seen because carbon dioxide gas is released. The calcium carbonate may also get smaller or dissolve.

    If the gas is passed through limewater, the limewater turns cloudy/milky/white because solid calcium carbonate (a precipitate) forms.
