  1. Carbon and iron are the cheapest reactants, but hydrogen is the most expensive.

    Separating solid products is expensive and takes a lot of time.

    In method 1, tungsten must be separated from tungsten carbide.

    Some tungsten is lost as tungsten carbide in method 1.

    Carbon dioxide produced in method 1 will escape.

    In method 2, water vapor will escape.

    No solid separation is needed in method 2.

    In method 3, tungsten needs to be separated from iron oxide.
